ARTIST'S EKPHRASIS:

A woman seduces and captures a man. Enticing, flirtatious, coy but altogether light. An officer with a smile. A work of humour. A devious mischief used to display a playful and domestic portrait of the union of marriage through the lens of society's liberals. In the East, marriage is often perceived as the loss of the freedom of a woman to a man. In the West, marriage is often perceived as the loss of the freedom of a man to a woman. Man Down is perhaps a west side story. In the narrative of this imagery, the man is faced with his back towards us as the woman smirks at the audience expelling the fumes of her cigarette into the air. It is a piece that could be placed in a bedroom or a lounge. It is suggestive of a man being held under the thumb of a woman voluntarily but the story is told with a wry smirk.
